Achille-Etna Michallon
(French, 1796 - 1822)
Portrait of the Artist Achille Etna Michallon
by Léon Cogniet

Son of the sculptor Claude Michallon, he is widely seen as a great talent who died early.  He won the Prix de Rome and studied under Jacques-Louis David.  Michallon was also the teacher of Corot, whose early landscapes, especially of those in Italy, bear a strong resemblance. Michallon  spent two years in Italy between 1818 and 1820. He died from pneumonia in 1822.
