Lodovico was the cousin of Annibale and Agostino Carracci. They all came from Bologna and developed a strong Mannerist style in their works. Along with his cousins, Lodovico worked on fresco cycles for the Palazzo Fava (1584) and Palazzo Magnani (1590-1592)in Bologna. He travelled to Venice, Florence and Parma but never visited Rome for inspiration. His works are characterized by a strong mood with bold gestures and is similar to those works undertaken by his cousins.
