Louis and his brothers Antoine (c1599 - 1648) and Mathieu (1607 - 1677) worked together and produced scenes of domestic life (genre). They often signed their name with 'Le Nain' and it is difficult to identify which work was by whom or whether they collaborated, as is generally agreed. Louis Le Nain is the best known of the brothers.
