Georges de la Tour
(French, 1593 - 1652)
This person is associated with: Caravaggisti, Baroque

Georges de la Tour was a French baroque painter born in Lorraine. He is noted for his religious and figurative works with an emphasis on chiaroscuro effects (strong shadowing to add drama to the event). His works show a similarity to the naturalism in the works of Caravaggio, although he is not believed to have studied directly the master‘s oeuvre.
