Born circa 1415 in Haalem, Netherlands and worked mainly in Louvain (now modern Belgium). He was greatly influeneced by Jan van Eyck and Rogier van der Weyden, under whom it is believed he studied. He brought expressive quality to his works with good colour and detailed landscaped backgrounds.
