Lorenzo Monaco, aka Pietro di Giovanni
(Italian, c. 1370 - c. 1425)

Florentine painter who stands as one of the greatest interpreters of late Gothic art.  He painted mainly altarpieces and was a contemporary of Masaccio, whose style broke away from the Gothic traditions of the time.
