Italian painter from Venice. One of the founders of the Venetian school with Titian. Very few paintings can be fully attributed to the artist and only about six works are thought to be solely by his hand.  Several works are confused with the early paintings of Titian and have been re-attributed. He is famous for 'The Three Philosophers' (Vienna), 'The Tempest (Venice) and 'The Sleeping Venus' (Dresden), the first nude painting of the goddess on a large canvas.
