A major artist of the Venetian early Renaissance.  He was the son of Jacopo and brother of Gentile, also artists.  Giovanni raised the artistic centre of Venice to rival that of Florence.  He was the brother-in-law of Andrea Mantegna, whose works and subject matter are more aligned to the Florentine style.
