Dutch Golden Age painter of Landscape. His master was Esaias van de Velde.

Prolific painter, he produced over 1200 paintings, an enormous amount for a 17th century painter. Jan van Goyen was one of the pioneers of Dutch landscape painting. He produced a distinctive monochrome style using browns and greys.

Jan Steen was his son-in-law.
