One of the most versatile and prolific artists during the Dutch Baroque Era. He was born and died in Haalem, the Netherlands and painted mainly landscape and battle scenes but also produced genre and religious works. Apart from a short time in Hamburg, Wouwermans spent his entire life in and around Haalem. His compositions were popular with the British aristocracy and a large number of his works survive in British collections.
