French Realist Painter whose works covered still life and landscapes.  Vollon's style was very much in the tradition of the 18th century and his still lifes of domestic objects bear resemblance to the French 18th century master, Jean-Baptiste Simeon Chardin.  Although a contemporary of the French avant garde artists who were experimenting out of doors and capturing fleeting moments we see in the Impressionists, Vollon's works are seen as 'deja vue' and he  has remained largely unpopular.
