French Barbizon School Painter.  Diaz frequented the villages of Barbizon and Chailly and was among the fist painters to depict the forest of Fontainebleau.  His sketches of rich dabs of colour, made outdoors for his works in landscapes, inspired future Impressionists Monet, Renoir, Sisley and Bazille.
