Dalì was born and died in Figueras, Catalonia. He was one of the most celebrated and colourful artists of the 20th Century and was one of the leading exponents of Surrealism. In 1929 he adapted this creative style after working in Cubism and Futurism. He was also a graphic artist, sculptor, film-maker and writer. Dalì remained an exhibitionist throughout his career and this gave him an aura of fame as well as controversy.
