Octave Tassaert
(French, 1800 - 1874)

Painter and printmaker, part of a French family of artists of Flemish origin.

Octave worked with his brother Paul Tassaert, producing engravings and turned to painting in his later teens.  He was a student at the  Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris from a8a7 to 1825.  For much of his career he worked in graphic arts, as well as painting, producing lithographs and drawings on various subjects. He also produced book illustrations for some of the Romantic novels of the day.
