Gilbert Munger
(American, 1837-1903)
Painted landscapes in the Hudson River school style of the western US from 1869 through 1876, based on three extended trips from his New York studio that used San Francisco as a base. Spent 1877 through 1893 in England and France where he adopted a Barbizon style and was extremely successful in the London market. Declined in popularity after his return to the US.
