There is some controversy as to rather or not Narmer and Menes, the second King listed, were different people or both the same person. The reason for this is that Menes had always been accepted as the King who unified Upper and Lower Egypt but in 1898 an image was found of Narmer holding the insignas of both Egypts. He ruled in the 32th century B.C.
