Annigoni was born in Milan and was a portrait and fresco painter. He bore the influence of Italian Renaissance portraiture and achieved world fame after painting Queen Elizabeth II in 1956. He painted portraits of many distinguished people including Pope John XXIII and Presidents Kennedy and Johnson.
