Italian Neapolitan painter, member of an important family of  painters who was much influenced by the dramatic light effects of the followers of Caravaggio. In about 1620 he became a follower of Caravaggio and  copied the latter's Flagellation (Museo di Capodimonte, Naples).

After 1630 the artist was also inspired by the works of Guido Reni  and Anthony van Dyck among others.
