Ambrosius Bosschaert the Elder
(Dutch, 1573 - 1621)
This person is associated with: Dutch Golden Age
Dutch painter of still lifes born in Antwerp. He fled the persecutions and settled in Middelbourg.

He was the first painter in history to only produce still-lifes. He surely launched the trend of this genre in the Dutch Republic and the rest of Europe, since his three sons (Johannes, Ambrosius the Younger and Abraham), as well as his brother-in-law, Balthasar van der Ast, closely followed his style.
