French Rococo painter. He trained under his father Antoine, then Antoine Watteau.

He was appointed academician in 1728.

He closely followed the style of his master, and mostly painted 'fetes galantes', which were highly sought after all over Europe. King Frederick II of Prussia was especially fond of his works and purchased forty of them.
