Bernardo Strozzi

Prominent and prolific Italian Baroque painter born and active mainly in Genoa, and also active in Venice. Strozzi was the leading Genoese painter of his period.  He was nicknamed Il Cappuccino, due to him becoming a Capuchin monk in 1598.  He moved from Genoa to Venice in 1630/1 where he remained for the rest of his life.  He painted mainly portraits, allegorical and religious works.
