Robert Salmon
(English, 1775-1845)
Robert Salmon (c. 1775 - c. 1845) was a painter of Scottish descent. He was born in Whitehaven, England (near the Scottish border) in 1775. He is documented in London by by the late 1790s and working in Liverpool by 1806, where he stayed until 1812. He worked in Greenock, Scotland from 1812-21. In 1828, he moved to America and was soon well-establihed in the harbor town of Boston. He continued to produce highly popular maritime and ship scenes until just before his death.
