Self Portrait
by Gianbettino Cignaroli
This person is associated with: Neoclassicism
Italian painter from Verona.

He trained under Antonio Balestra.

In his mature years, Cignaroli abandoned the rococo style of his master and favoured instead more classical composition and colours, which foreshadowed Neoclassicism by some twenty years. However, as he never left Italy, he was not as influential as Mengs on the history of art.
