Polidoro da Caravaggio
(Italian, 1497 - 1543)
This person is associated with: Mannerism, Renaissance
Born around 1497. Polidoro was unrelated to the later, and better known, painter Michelangelo di Merisi da Caravaggio, known simply as Caravaggio. Both came from the same small town and because Polidoro had a high reputation, the later Caravaggio adopted the same hometown. Caravaggio was best known for the now vanished paintings on the walls of Roman houses.
