Charles François Daubigny
(French, 1817 - 1878)
This person is associated with: Barbizon school

Daubigny was born and died in Paris. His early works were influenced by the paintings of Poussin and Ruisdael that he saw in the Louvre in Paris. In fact many of his works are similar in style and subject matter to those of the Dutch 17th Century. From 1835 to 1836 he was in Italy. He was a friend of Camille Corot and drew inspiration from the Barbizon School of painters, with whom he is generally associated. Daubigny was admired by Monet and his works are seen as a link between the rural landscapes of the French mid-19th Century and those of the later Impressionists.
