The Orléans collection
The Orleans collection was the greatest private painting collection ever assembled. Philippe II, Duke of Orléans, nephew of Louis XIV, and Regent between 1715 and 1723, bought a very prestigious ensemble in Rome from Cardinal Odaleschi in 1721.
