Miracle of Saint Francis of Paola

A companionpiece to "The Finding of the True Cross", this preparatory sketch was for a major painting in the church of San Rocco, Venice. The figure in a monk's cowling was the fifteenth-century founder of the Order of the Minim, or Hermits of Saint Francis, who s shown restoring a dead child to life.
