The Angel of Death and the Sculptor (From the Milmore Memorial)

Designed as an original bronze statue for a family in Massachusetts, and cast in Paris in 1892. In 1917 the president of the Metropolitan approached French and asked if he would produce a replica in marble. The Piccirilli brothers were given the task of carving the memorial 'tablet' and this was achieved between 1922-26.
