This sculpture and its companion piece, La Seine, were placed at the summit of the Nepture cascade in the park of Marly. The figure of La Marne was later transferred to a fountain in Brest, Bretagne, and is now displayed with other works from Marly in the Cour Marly, Musée du Louvre.
